• Who is the band made of?

Desertion is Daniel “Fam” Ortiz, Johnny Ortega, Seth Medina, Andrew Rathbone, and Cash Ortiz.

• Who is the producer/engineer of the band?

We’ve done everything with Joshua Bearden of Nevermore Recordings.

• Who are your fans?

Our fans are an extension of us. They’re people who feel what we feel and share the same love for music.

• What sparked the bands name?

Fam was writing down possible band name after band name until we stumbled upon Desertion. It was that or Plumeria but Desertion fit the sound and message we were going for.

• What bands/artists does your band take influence from?

Heavily influenced by Linkin Park, Beartooth, Counterparts, Limp Bizkit, and Bring me the Horizon.

• What is the bands mission stand for?

We stand for positive growth. We stand for turning our pain into something beautiful and overcoming obstacles using the lessons we learn along the way. We stand for being a voice for the voiceless and sharing our stories in hopes it reaches someone who needs it.

• Where is the band from now?

Desertions members are spread out across Southern California. Fam is the only founding member and since he resides in the South Bay (Torrance) Desertion is South Bay.

• Where did the band start?

The band started in Torrance, CA

• Where does the band find influence?

Looking back on our roots. Looking back on the music that inspired us in the first place and gave us the drive to do what we do. We find influence in our own pain. We sing and write about these things we go through to reach people on a deeper understanding.

• Where has the band written and recorded?

All of Desertion’s writing has been done at Nevermore Recordings in Las Vegas or in Fam’s bedroom as he is the main songwriter of Desertion.

• When did the band start?

Desertion was founded in the fall of 2017 by Fam and Jordan Damasco.

• When should the fans be expecting new material?

We have at least 16 demos written and are working on more. It’s just a matter of deciding which ones to release and pulling the trigger on that. Hopefully spring and summer we will have a couple singles out.

• Why do you guys write music?

We write what we write because it’s what we love. It’s freedom of self expression on a level that we can’t achieve any other way. I can’t express the things I feel any other way. Music is the only thing that makes sense.

• Why do you go to the producers you do?

Fam has known Josh and his band Distinguisher for years. Josh understands the vision of Desertion and he can see the picture we want to paint. He helps bring life to everything we’ve ever wanted to make and he’s exceeded expectations every single time.

• Why should people become fans?

People should be fans of us because we have more to offer every day. We have constant ideas flowing and we have something for everyone. People should listen to the things we have to say to encourage a positive change in our community.

• How do you describe the bands live show?

Our live show is energetic, fun, personal, inclusive, and something everyone can enjoy.

• How do you see the band growing?

We want Desertion to be one of the bands that changes the game. We want Desertion to be a band that kids look at for inspiration in the future. We want to make timeless music that will last for generations to come.
